When we hear celebrity fashion, the first thing that comes to our minds is awards! The pre celebrations include quaffing cocktails and hovering over, gossiping over the red carpet. The stars name who they’re wearing: Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Gucci, Dior, etc. it’s an event that inspires gossip, media, and drama and it’s all due to the power of celebrity. Historically, the rich and the powerful were the ones with more power and the influence to make trends. One such lady was Mary Antoinette, she was famous all across Europe for her styles. But yet, her reach was not as high as that of today’s celebrities.

The celebrities weren’t only in the movies, but also in print for mass production. Print and film culture came into a bond when couture was invented. One of the first celebrities to be dressed by the couturiers was the queen of the stage- Sarah Bernhardt. In the 19th century, Jacques Doucet handles his costumes, and eventually she was passed to Doucet’s skilled assistant- Paul Poiret. He designed for her successfully until he caught him making fun of her for wearing slacks in L’Aiglon in 1898. He was fired after this.

Starting from the 1920s, the golden age of Hollywood brought more fame to celebrities. Film stars were groomed by the studios and were considered icons. Some of them even started influencing trends. One example of such star power was- Marlene Dietrich. She was very glamourous but her style was often masculine. She used to dress in square shoulders, suits, tuxedos, and trousers.
