My Future, My Career
This week my classmates and I were given the task to find three jobs that we would want to apply for in the future. One of these jobs had to be local, another had to be national, and the final one needed to be transitional. Where I stand in my life right now, my career path is focused on three aspects: journalism; social media; and broadcasting. All three of these potential careers will revolve around my passion for the world of sports.
The first job I found was a General Social editor for ESPN. I would be working in one of ESPN offices located in New York. My work would center around creating content for social media platforms across the ESPN network. The skills I have that make me competitive for this job include, my vast knowledge of sports, my ability to optimize the viewing of my published content from my past experience in this field, and my advanced writing skills that have developed through my degree in journalism. In order to acquire I have to become more accustomed to all of the different types of digital content management systems. My experience lies between the two platforms of Twitter and Instagram, so I would need to make sure my knowledge is more than sufficient along the other outlets.
The second job I found is a broadcasting job for the local Pittsburgh CBS station. I was born and raised in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, which lies about 20 minutes outside of the heart of Pittsburgh. This local job would focus on me broadcasting the latest sports storylines to the people of Pittsburgh. The skills I have to compete for this career include my ability to socialize about any sports topic, and the skillset to write and organize a compelling story in order to present the public with the headlines in an interesting way. In order to excel at this job I would need to gain experience in radio broadcasting. I would do this by researching successful broadcasters and finding the best kind of style in order to mimic their performances. Broadcasting is a dream of mine and this would be a great job for me to learn and grow in this field.
The final transitional job I found is a Promotion Assistant for the Pittsburgh area. I would be planning and organizing local entertainment such as sports, concerts, and other events. The set of skills that would make me competitive for this job would be my upbeat and optimistic personality, my great set of social skills that allow me to communicate effectively, and my knowledge of the Pittsburgh area. This job is not very demanding when it comes to requirements, but I would like to gain knowledge of the radio industry in hopes to use this as a platform to work my way up in the CBS Pittsburgh ranks.
