Communications Specialist-Local Career (Baltimore, MD)

The skills I possess that would make me competitive for the communications specialist position are my ability to work under an intense amount of stress, and to creatively come up with ideas and effective strategies. Also, my experience as an intern for the FORCE non-profit organization helped me be able to confidently communicate issues that were sensitive and difficult to others, as well as myself. My work on the Monument Quilt, which shared stories of sexual abuse and rape through the sewing of quilt squares, allowed me to promote positivity and cultivate close relationships in the workplace. The internship further encouraged the importance of deadlines by having the quilt be finished by a specific date. The skills I would need to acquire for the communications specialist career are superior oral and written communication, two years plus experience in public relations, and proficiency in Google Analytics. I will acquire these skills by continuing to practice and fine tune my writing and oral communication. This will include me speaking in front of audiences more often, such as my classmates and strangers at events, and rigorously proof-reading and editing my work as well as showing others my work to read over. Lastly, I will need to get more familiar with Google Analytics by exploring its content and creating projects using the tool.

Public Relations Coordinator- National Career (Reston, VA)

The skills I have that would make me competitive for the public relations coordinator position are that I have clear communication skills, and I am able to succeed and adapt in a fast-paced and changing environment (Carahsoft Technology Corp., 2017). In my internship at FORCE, I was required to work quickly in order to make the deadline of completing the Monument Quilt. This included me moving to different sewing stations in the studio, and working with new and different people often to properly create the quilt squares. The skills I will need to acquire for the public relations coordinator career are more knowledge and experience in the field of public relations and marketing functions. I will acquire this by interning at places that deal directly with public relations and/or marketing functions to build and apply my knowledge and experience in the field.

Instagram Communications Associate- Transnational Career (London, United Kingdom)

The skills I have that would make me competitive for the Instagram communications associate position are the ability to think creatively, communicate with different kinds of people, and my in-depth understanding and love for Instagram. In reference to my internship at FORCE, I used Instagram to spread the word about the Monument Quilt that was being made, the mission of FORCE, and tried to get others to help towards the goal of bringing awareness to sexual violence in minority communities. I realized the influence of Instagram and used the platform to my advantage to reach out to a broader, younger audience. The skills I will need to acquire the Instagram communication associate job are more professional experience, learning a European language, and perfecting my oral and written skills. I will achieve these skills by interning at as many public relation and media companies as I can, and by taking another course in Spanish, which would further increase my understanding of the language. Lastly, I would continue to read scholarly journals to improve my vocabulary and grammar, thus improving my oral and written skills.
