Update 26th March, 2024:

Profila has evolved considerably since this article was written. Whilst our mission and core features remain the same, we have changed our product to be a web app as opposed to a downloadable app. We will write an updated version of this guide as it becomes open for testing in the near future!

While we’re eager to welcome our first platform users, we’re aware that with a unique platform, we have some unique questions from our community on how they can make the most out of Profila. As such, we’ve made a first beginner’s guide to Profila, explaining some key concepts and answering some lingering questions.

So, let’s take a first look at Profila together!

How do I join?

As Profila is currently using a B2B2C model, in order to access the app you’ll need an invitation code. This code will come from one of your favourite brands that we’re working with so they can offer you, their customers, an exclusive experience whilst retaining a private, 1:1 relationship. In this article, we’ll use the example of Radisson Hotels.

How can you get a code? We’ll be allowing a lucky group of 50 people to test the app early. This will be done via exclusive NFTs given away to community members during one of our Treasure Hunts (Treasure Hunt: An AMA meets a Trivia Show). To know when the Treasure Hunt is going to take place, make sure to sign up to our newsletter or follow us on our social platforms!

Of course, we want everyone to have equal access to the Profila app, so this will change in the future so that you won’t need a code to join, but for now it’s necessary to get started.

Here’s what a brand subscription looks like

Ok, I’m in! Now what?

Now that you’ve joined, you can build up your digital profile by completing our curated self-discovery quizzes in categories that interest you! These include Travel & Adventure, Food and Drink, and Fashion, with more categories unlockable with progress. For completing these quizzes, you’ll be rewarded with our token ZEKE.

As you’re building your own profile, Brands can see you for who you really are, as opposed to assumptions from online cookies and tracking data.

Unlock more categories as you level up in the app

I’ve done some quizzes, but how does a brand find me?

Using our existing B2B2C model, as you’ve received an invite code from a brand (Radisson, in this case), they will automatically send you (in the Profila app) a subscription offer.

What’s a subscription?

If a brand wants to see your data in order to send you offers, exclusive content, or anything else, they will send you a subscription offer wherein they are subscribing to your data. Once you join the app with a code, you’ll see this offer with the details of exactly how long the subscription is for, how much you’ll be paid, and most importantly, the data that they want to see. This data comes from the quizzes that you complete, as described above!

A subscription offer is a brand’s request to subscribe to your data

Great, they subscribed! Now what happens?

Now that the brand has subscribed to you, they can send you exclusive content curated just for you. The content will be based on the data from the quizzes you’ve completed, so if Radisson subscribes to me and knows that I love the countryside but am not so fond of the beach, they’ll cater content towards that.

You receive this content based on the frequency that you set out, so you’ll never be overloaded with content you didn’t ask for. Adding to this, you’ll be paid out 50% of the ad budget brands spend to deliver the content to you, with the option of being paid in ZEKE tokens and getting up to 80% instead!

This is what a tailored ad looks like (if you’re into hiking gear, that is)

Cool! What else can I do?

As you now have a private, 1:1 relationship with the brand, one of the greatest things you can do with Profila is provide feedback right to the brand about things that you like/dislike, without having to worry about getting lost in the crowd! You can submit this feedback along with a photo/video if you so wish, and we call these pieces of feedback Moments, which you can read more about here.

The brand can respond directly to your moment, initiating a conversation either about something you loved, or one about constructive suggestions you have for them. Either way, your voice is heard.

When brand feedback turns into discounts– everybody wins

This sounds great, but how and when do I get paid?

You get paid out monthly based on the subscriptions you have, as well as the ad content that you watched. You will be paid in fiat currency ($, €, etc.) unless you have indicated that you would like to be paid in ZEKE.

From the Profila app wallet, you can transfer the funds you’ve earned to you bank account or (in the case of ZEKE), your crypto wallet.

This is what getting paid to see ads looks like

How do I control how many ads I see?

As Profila is an entirely new concept, we had to create an entirely new tool.

By using Metronome, you can adjust not only how often you receive content, but also control if you see certain types of content more frequently than others. For instance, I want to see as many ‘Exclusive Experiences’ from Radisson as possible, but don’t really want to see general company information. Using Metronome, I can control this and adjust to fit my own needs.

Use Metronome to control what type of content you see and how often you see it

What happens if I want to cancel a subscription?

To cancel a subscription you simply go to you ‘subscriptions’ page and hit the red ‘cancel’ button. We’ll take care of the rest.

Cancelling a subscription will inform the brand to stop sending you future advertising, but also revoke their access to your data.

Manage your relationships with brands via your subscription preferences

Is there anything else that I can do in Profila regarding my personal data?

Of course! One of our core objectives is returning the power of privacy to you, so we built a tool that allows you to ‘unsubscribe on steroids’ by telling companies what to do (or what not to do) with your personal data.

Within the Profila app you can exercise data rights (depending on your region) in a simple, efficient manner. This can be done with brands that you are connected with, or that are subscribed to you — but we aim to expand this promptly so you can use it with any brand.

Profila makes exercising your Data Subject’s Rights (DSRs) a breeze

We’ll be publishing more content soon about specific app features and concepts to go into more detail about how you can get the most out of them, but this basic guide will help you with the first steps in your Profila journey.
