Solar panels is a growing topic of discussion in finding new ways to help our planets environment, and considered the fastest growing industry in the renewable energy sector.

But are solar panels as great as it’s said to be? And how do solar panels help improve the environment? Let’s keep reading..

Whether you agree with global warming or not, most can agree that our methods of producing energy through fossil fuels, coal, uranium can all be quite hazardous and expensive.

Solar panels is just one way to help produce energy without harming our environment, but there’s one small problem..

Although solar systems are an amazing alternative to energy production, there are a few barriers that stand in it’s way to become more widely accepted.

  • Solar systems can produce large amounts of energy especially through large scale projects, and it becomes difficult to store excess energy for periods when the sun isn’t present. With this problem, solar is typically used along side with battery systems as a backup generator. The problem with the battery system is that it is manufactured using fossil fuels which contradicts the whole objective of investing in solar as a cleaner alternative.
  • Solar panels are composed of chemicals such as Silicon which acts as a semi-conductor for the absorption of light, as well as other chemicals such as cadmium and lead. Although less harmful than other energy production methods, what happens when we have to dispose of them? Disposing solar panels creates negative by-products in our atmosphere, and is causing tremendous issues in contaminating waters (traces of lead, and cadmium). Statistically speaking, nuclear power plants provide less negative by-products than solar panels.

Which then brings us back to the question: “Are solar panels even worth it?”.

Here’s the truth. After speaking and consulting with many experts in the field of solar here is a quick summary of what I’ve learned. “Even though solar might not be perfect just yet, is still stands as having the greatest potential, and is one of the few industries that provides us with the opportunity to innovate it’s technology”.

Let me ask you this. What is the future of nuclear power plants, wind turbines, and fossil fuels? Well there isn’t much of a future, and there isn’t much of an opportunity to advance these methods when you think about it.

Sure we can help scale these projects, but in terms of the technology in itself it is difficult to find ways to innovate to make it better. But when we look at solar, we see greater potential over other forms of renewable energy. It is the same reason why countries like Germany and China spend millions and receiving large government subsidies on R&D as well as solar production to make it more efficient, less costly, and clean enough to be easily disposed of.

It is within a matter of time when your planet will be willing to accept solar as one of the top leaders in energy generation, and will soon outdo most other forms of energy production.
