Announced at Google for India event, the Android Oreo (Go Edition) has hit a major milestone. It aims to give a unified Google experience to internet users especially on the low-end handsets. Much like Apple’s AirDrop, Files Go lets you transfer files directly between devices (at speeds up to 125Mbps) without it costing mobile data. This means as long as both devices have the app installed, files can be transferred on the direct basis. In addition to this, the mobile vision technology recommends on the files that must be removed, for example- unused apps, duplicate files, low-resolution videos, and memes, etc.

The beta version was previously launched in the month of November, whereas the final edition is built for Go edition devices, but the app works on any Android devices running Lollipop (5.0) or higher. The tech giant also reveals that an average person is able to save around 1GB of space by using the Go app. Now organizing your phones ample of data can be a tedious job and storing too many files can eventually end up affecting the device’s performance over time. With the new launch, not only storage but access to Google services such as Search, Voice Search, GIFs, YouTube, Translate, and Maps has been improved to a great extent.

Weighing less than 5MB size, Google Go consumes 40 percent less data and is optimized for devices with less than 1GB of RAM. It will be available for download for all Android devices starting Tuesday and will come pre-installed on Android Go devices. For entry-level Smartphones with 512MB-1GB Ram, Google announced Oreo Go as a version of Android 8.0 Oreo.

All about Google’s Files Go app

Down below here I would like to mention a few things to know about Google’s Files Go app

Like I said before, managing storage on a phone or tablet is one of the most annoying tasks to deal with. Users more often get baffled while deciding which apps to delete, how much room it will save, and hunt down files that just aren’t needed and so more. Google Files Go app is your savior! Let’s find out how?

~Apps and files- Check out the home page of the Files Go app details storage amount of your device, do you see how much space is being used? Yes, the new version makes recommendations to help free up some space. Users will often receive alerts for things like apps you haven’t used in the past 30 days, or apps with a large cache of unnecessary files, audio files, or duplicate files stored on your device. All you need to do is go through each alert, pick and choose what stays and what goes, then rejoice at your newly reclaimed space.

~File Viewer- Now coming to the bottom of the app, you will find a files tab. The file section offers a file manager view, with files broken down into types. The section includes downloads, received files, apps, images, videos, audio, and documents. The files that show up in each category don’t necessarily come from appropriate Android storage folders. Instead, the Files Go apps scan your device and add the files to the app. It is but natural that you can delete and manage any files in this section of the app. Furthermore, you can use the share button to back up the file to Google Drive or Dropbox before removing it from your phone or tablet.

~AirDrop, but for Android- This function is a bit hidden in comparison to others, but File Go includes the ability to share files with nearby friends. In fact, it works in a lot of ways like Apple’s Airdrop feature, using a secure hotspot connection between two devices to transfer the file. Instead of being able to send files to random strangers, the recipient will have to approve the connection between the devices before anything can be sent or received.

~Settings- Here one can change the name that shows up for file sharing and control alerts for various triggers (low storage or large media files, for example).

So that’s all for now! Keep watching the space to know more regarding Google’s Go and reliable Android Oreo app developers across the globe.
