The recent ban of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes in India has caused an uproar in the society, community has been divided among the supporters, haters and creators. The real situation is solved only once we face it.

At Widely, we guys were also facing the troubles like everyone and decided to solve than crib.

A general picture of current scenario outside banks and ATMs.

So, to cut the short story shorter, we decided last Monday (14th November) to do something about it, by engineering. We used our platform and developed an intuitive web application in mere 3 days, with 2 and a half developers effort.

Introducing you all with 500Bawal.com!

It is an online portal to connect masses in India and update information related to cash withdrawal, exchange, deposit, opening bank account easier with the help of check ins and check outs by people standing in the queues.

The current chaos after the announcement made by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi to eradicate black money from the country and fight corruption has received mixed reactions, majorly everyone supports the idea but execution is where as a country we’re facing problems.

Government is trying to overcome the situation but it is as citizens our duty to support our fellow citizens and help build a smoother process.

In this portal, where anybody can update about current situation of banks and ATMs they visit and help others looking for the same in the vicinity. Virtual updates will help getting queues shorter and process smoother, as nearby users can view the state of particular bank or ATM in the app.

Interesting part about 500Bawal is that, it works offline, can get installed to user’s mobile screen taking very less space, even being a website. Ideal for tier 2–3 cities and low end mobiles, for those who are affected the most. We’re working to notify users via push notifications and emails for the updates over user’s queries and also language support.

Currently the platform is crowd-sourced and within 24 hours of its launch in Beta the response was overwhelming and the web app received more than 3000 views, now our team wish to make it available at ground level with real data of just not near by banks or ATMs but the time taken and availability of cash. With the changing announcements everyday, 500Bawal aim to put the updated data.

We’re also looking for volunteers or any organization which could help us spread the word and take up this initiative with us at ground level.

Visit the 500Bawal web app, facebook and twitter handles and share, if you think of it as useful.
