Friday, January 19, 2018, was a very busy day, and we’ve got lots of exciting news to report!
Revolution-In-A-Box!
Ever since ProgCode first met in the Summer of ’16, our members have been building lots of campaign tools. You need auto-dialers? We’ve got ’em. Do we have any events calendars or interactive maps? Boy do we. Our members have even built peer-to-peer texting tools and digital-to-print mailing applications. As 2018 campaigns begin ramping up, our immediate task is to white-label existing tools and assemble them in a Toolkit like the ProgCode Toolkit the operations team uses to help new members navigate the network’s operations, processes and Slack environment. ProgCode member Oren Robinson came up with the brilliant name. If you’d like to contribute to this urgent project, please join the folks in our newest Slack channel, #revolution-in-a-box!
Hyper Extensive Mappy Thing!
The project heretofore known as #maps-for-change may not have an official name yet, but it’s already off to an incredibly strong start in 2018. Project Manager Joe Breslin announced yesterday that ProgCode stalwart Arash Aghevli has joined the project as volunteer Tech Team Lead! Joe & Arash are recruiting volunteers with experience in PHP, Node.js and D3 as well as data scientists, front end developers and organizational end-users to help AB test. New Politics Journal
New Politics, the independent socialist forum for leftist dialogue and debate since its first series in 1961, is re-launching it’s website in 2018! The site will continue hosting current journal articles and archives as well as online-only blog content. Project Lead Willie Thompson tells us the site is currently on Drupal but they are open to changing CMS platforms. Willie is assembling a team and recruiting volunteers with Back end experience in Drupal/ Wordpress (or other CMS), a web designer to develop a new look and feel, and a front end developer to implement the designs. San Francisco Resistry!
With much thanks to Kim Dryden for her initial design direction, Project Manager Haney Armstrong is heading up a team to launch Resistry SF — a simple platform which will enable five San Francisco progressive non-profit organizations, including San Francisco chapters of Indivisible, SwingLeft and Sister District, to combine their recruitment efforts. Haney is recruiting San Francisco area developers, writers, designers and social media specialists to help build proof of concept. After succeeding in SF, a national version will launch nationwide. Here’s a look back at the HUGE IMPACT ProgCode has been able to accomplish without any outside funding in just 18 months. Anyone who has worked for a non-profit start-up can attest, it’s impossible to sustain this level of impact without a steady revenue stream. As we enter our initial phase of donor outreach for seed money to sustain our momentum, it’s important we can demonstrate to potential grantees we have the support of the community behind us. This week, we launched our Patreon and CrowdPac crowd-sourcing campaigns to raise $1,300 in recurring monthly donations. Those funds will not only maintain existing operations tech assets, but will allow us to begin offering new member services to your volunteer development teams. That’s right, our first baby step on the road to long-term sustainability will be providing our members with AWS and Heroku hosting servies, as well as access to project management tools like Airtable, Calendly and Zoom video conferencing services.
Thanks to everyone who has already dug deep into the sofa cushions to contribute your own financial resources, devoted radical contributions of volunteer time and fundraising expertise to help us sustain this important work!
