Not long time ago Google Chrome team announced the release of Chrome 76 for Windows, Mac and Linux, which brought a lot of excitement to everyone interested in Progressive Web Apps.

Address Bar Install for Progressive Web Apps on the Desktop

Starting from 76 version, Google Chrome made it easier for users to install Progressive Web Apps on the desktop, by adding an install button to the address bar, also known as omnibox.

If your website meets the Progressive Web App installability criteria, Chrome will show an install button in the omnibox indicating, that your Progressive Web App can be installed. If the user clicks the install button, an install dialog box will appear, making it easy for a user to install your PWA.

When your PWA is installed on a user’s device, your users can now choose whether to browse your site using a browser as previously or launch an app.

It is possible to launch an app, using the omnibox or via desktop shortcut that was automatically added during the installation.

Your PWA will look more like a windowed application than a website, increasing user engagement and providing new opportunities for merchants.
