Forced births and unwanted children exacerbate poverty [CAP]. Rising maternal and infant mortality comes with that poverty. For disempowered women, it means widening economic inequity. Coincidentally, Republicans have opposed the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) for half a century. Whether we believe Republican actions are calculated or not, the facts remain: forced pregnancies create more potential workers and push more women and children into poverty [Guttmacher Institute].
Equally coincidentally, Project 2025 advances policies are targeted to weaken protections against discrimination and harassment in the workplace. The agenda’s policy proposals would impact job retention and advancement opportunities for women; i.e., it would be back to the old days when a pregnant woman could lose her job for being pregnant. Generally, the proposed policies would engender hostile working environments. [NOW]
Basically, the project intends to force us to have babies. Then, it intends to punish us as workers for getting pregnant or having children in need.
