What

The objective of the Symposium is to bring together leading social activists (who represent the problem) and leading crypto economy and decentralisation experts (who represent possible solutions) to explore and agree upon a new social contract for establishing a post-scarcity world of “haves and have mores”, rather than today’s “haves and have nots”. Subsequent Symposiums will track the progress of the implementation of the contract over 10 years.

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”— R. Buckminster Fuller

When

January 26 to February 2, 2020

Where

The core event will be 5-star, tented, “glamping” safari event, organised and hosted by gentleman extraordinaire, Peter Hayward, Founder & CEO of Hayward’s Grand Safari Company. Exact location will be revealed closer to the date. The nearest international airport is Johannesburg O.R. Tambo.

Simultaneous events will be arranged in major cities around the world so that those who cannot make the main event can still be included in local events. The main event will be live streamed globally, using social media platforms rather than traditional press and TV coverage. A 90-minute documentary will be produced, preserving the highlights of the event.

Who

The event will be attended by select individuals with recognized worldwide influence as opinion leaders. Also in attendance will be about 250 social activists and technology innovators. To avoid partisanship, no elected officials and only highly selective religious leaders will be invited to attend. See full list of likely invitees.

In addition, there will be full public participation via live-streaming of the event and open participation using a group decision making tool like Ethelo.

Why

Profound, existential threats to humanity and the environment are multiplying. Few effective solutions — solutions that can actually be implemented — appear to be at hand.

Exponentially accelerating change is making it harder and harder for most people to fathom what is happening in the world. Politics and business tend to be reactive, not proactive, and usually with only a short-term perspective.

We desperately need to find a shareable long-term perspective that enables a graceful transition from today’s scarcity-based systems to tomorrow’s abundance-based systems, minimizing conflicts and crises along the way.

Systemic thinkers who wish to support a bright, sustainable future need to find and/or develop a common vision that is attainable in the next several decades, based on implementing known and emerging science and technology.

While our vision is decidedly neutral amongst religions, or the lack thereof, we find ourselves nodding in agreement with this statement:

“The future of humanity does not lie solely in the hands of great leaders, the great powers and the elites. The future is fundamentally in the hands of peoples and in their ability to organize.

It is in their hands, which can guide with humility and conviction this process of change. I am with you.” — Pope Francis, 9 July, 2015.
