Six Movies to Watch While on Your Period
On lazy, hazy period days, there are a few movies that never fail to cheer me up. They range from cutesy rom-coms to heart-wrenching romance movies that make me bawl until my eyes dry up. Here are some top recommendations from the Project Stree team for when you feel languid or lethargic on your period:
1. The Proposal (2009)
The Proposal is a cheesy romantic comedy with everyone’s favorite trope: enemies to lovers. Book editor Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) says she’s engaged to her assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) to maintain her visa status in the United States. You’ll laugh until you cry, and the tension between the main characters will keep you on the edge of your seat.
2. Before You Go (2014)
Before You Go is a story about two strangers (Chris Evans and Alice Eve) who are stuck together in Manhattan. They spend the evening together going on an adventure to confront their fears and take control of their lives. The movie will make you wish you were swept away on an evening escapade with a stranger that looks like Chris Evans.
3.The Princess Diaries (2001)
A classic for all ages, The Princess Diaries tells the story of 15-year-old Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) who finds out that she is the heir to the throne of Genovia. This light-hearted movie will melt the hardest of hearts, and the best part — there’s a sequel!
4. She’s The Man (2006)
Are you looking for some Shakespearean romantic comedy without having to read the plays? Check out She’s The Man, an adaptation of The Twelfth Night starring Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum. When the girls’ soccer team at her school is cut, Viola (Amanda Bynes) will do whatever it takes to play her sport — even if it means joining the boys’ soccer team and posing as her brother. This energizing movie makes me want to get out of bed and go for a run.
5. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Continuing with the Shakespeare classic 10 Things I Hate About You is the perfect movie to watch when you need a pick-me-up. Kat Strafford (Julia Stiles) crosses paths with the one and only Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger), and sparks fly. Unaware of Patrick’s motives, Kat grows closer to him and a romance ensues. This classic is perfect for a laid-back, lazy day.
6. P.S. I Love You (2007)
This movie made me ugly-cry until I couldn’t see the screen anymore. After Holly’s (Hillary Swank) husband Gerry (Gerrard Butler) dies of a terminal illness, she discovers he has written her letters to help her cope with his death. These letters evoke a range of emotions, from unbridled joy to cascades of tears, and make you wish you had a person as caring as Gerry in your life.
