Hello World :-)
I wrote my first line of code in 4th grade, and was instantly captivated by the creative possibilities. This was in the early 1980s… pre-Internet, and Pre-Windows :-).
As the Internet and our computerized world has grown, the demands and opportunities for programming skills has grown faster than the development of talent to fill them.
With computers and connected devices playing such a large role in our everyday lives, I believe that it is important for the perspectives of a diverse collection of talent to be a part of its creation (across cultural, gender, regional, and socio-economic backgrounds).
This is the goal of Project <WE> Code:
Increase the number of programmers from under-represented communities, by:
- Providing resources to make learning to code easier (and more fun)
- Make learning code more accessible regardless of the availbility of two precious resources…time and money
It is my vision that doing so will:
- Ensure that the needs, perspectives, and potential impacts on members of all communities are considered and represented in the design and marketing of new technologies (through the increased diversity of development teams)
- Provide access to greater economic and career development opportunities to talent in under-represented, economically disadvantaged, and economically tranisitioning communities
If you are interested in supporting this project, or would like to get access to the amazing resources that will be offered, feel free to reach out at info@projectwecode.com as we get setup!
