The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released an updated Net Zero Roadmap, emphasizing that the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C while driving greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector to net zero remains feasible. The report acknowledges significant progress in clean energy technologies, such as record growth in solar power capacity and electric car sales, aligned with the pathway to achieve global net-zero emissions by mid-century.

However, it underscores the urgent need for accelerated momentum in various areas. The roadmap lays out strategies to triple renewable power capacity by 2030, double annual energy efficiency improvements, increase electric vehicle and heat pump sales, and reduce energy sector methane emissions by 75%. While achievable, this calls for robust international cooperation, bolder action, and increased investment. The report also highlights the importance of equitable transitions and resilient supply chains in achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
