HP Victus RTX 3060 — Part Four — 16 GB RAM handicap
Why do PC manufacturers in India continue to handicap their products, with misguided RAM slot occupation?
It has been only a few days, and it will take weeks before I confirm that, yes, this machine is as good as I imagined it to be. Of course, there are problems abound.
I already wrote about the warranty confusion.
Now, I am writing about the 16 GB RAM handicap. The processor is new. The motherboard looks and feels solid. Everything is great.
However, I am saddled for the rest of my life, with 16 GB of RAM. HP has decided to put 8 GB of RAM on each RAM slot. This is great. However, I am perfectly capable of affording more RAM.
So. I want to.
Unfortunately, if I were to upgrade the RAM, I have to throw away the existing RAM and put my new RAM. Either I have to go to 32 GB or 64 GB. I cannot and should not mix and match 8 GB + 32 GB.
I had a discussion about this with my friend in finland, and he says, it is cheaper for manufacturers to put 2 X 8 GB RAM, than it is to build machines with a single 16 GB RAM stick, leaving the other slot open for easy upgrades.
That could be one reason.
Either way, this is a gaming machine. HP could have done better.
Sure, eventually, one fine weekend, I will have enough of this and buy 16 X 2 or 32 X 2 RAM and upgrade. Still though, such a missed opportunity.
