How Labor Democracy will probably work (High Level).
So lets figure out how democracy through Prolet will work. Before that first some basics about block chain.
What is Ethereum?
First of all if you are new to Ethereum and DAPPs, i would suggest reading about Ethereum a little bit. In short Ethereum is a decentralized block chain ledger. So there is no central authority to manipulate your data. Every transaction is verified and added to a distributed database, maintained by thousands of computers (miners) all over the world.
What is a DAPP?
DAPP(distributed app) is a basic HTML webpage which is connecting to the block chain. Since there is no central Database hosted on any company’s datacenter, a DAPP is literally perpetual, and can’t be brought down.
A Brief Description Of Prolet.
Prolet is a marketplace of Gigs. Someone who needs some work done and have money to pay for it, can post a gig. Prolet allows the people who are doing the work to assemble into teams (membership applications go through voting). These teams then can bid on the gigs. Once a bid is accepted, work begins by the team whose bid got accepted. The Gig creator pays bid price to the smart contract. After the work is completed the Smart Contract distributes the money equally to the team members.
Why is all this different from typical freelancing?
Freelancing works only if the party who does the work is a single person. The moment it requires a team, then typical hierarchies like managers, companies etc kick in. Also there is the issue of trust.The gig creator is promising a significant sum of money to a geographically disparate large group of people for working on his project. How do we make sure that no one gets hurt in this transaction. This lack of trust inclines us to resort to typical ways of establishing trust, such as working only with companies (and not individuals), hiring lawyers to work out contracts, and finally hiring people to work in premise where they can be closely monitored (instead of hiring any one in any part of the world).
What is Prolet Solving?
Prolet is trying to kill lots of birds with one stone and they are
- Create a more flatter world and get rid of hierarchies.
- Lesser middlemen. Managers, lawyers, leads etc are a waste of resources and they don’t add to productivity. In prolet every decision is made inside the team using voting, so we don’t need managers. Also remuneration is controlled through smart contracts. So the lawyers are replaced with code.
- Prolet is addressing inequality. Since contract is established through code, team members get paid equally, once they finish the work. No managers, CEOs to take out a giant cut out of your hard work. Also team members don’t have to be co-located. No more rich country, poor country and all that.
- Better team decisions. Every team decision goes through vote. These votes are validated on the blockchain and they cant be fudged. Since there more minds evaluating the pros and cons of a decision, you are bound to have better decisions.
- More involved and motivated workers. Imagine you go to your work tomorrow, and they tell you that you will receive an equal share of the profits and you will have a vote in every decision the company makes. Well if that doesn’t motivate you, nothing else can.
- Transparent hiring process. Conventional interview processes to hire applicants is a mess. A short round of Q&A or any other mechanism is not an efficient method to gauge an individual. The interviewee might have come prepared with answers to the interviewer’s questions, but he might not have done any real world problem solving. Prolet team members get rated by Gig owners on project completion, which gets saved into the blockchain. Thus Prolet becomes the team member’s verified work experience.
