End of Summer

A Love Song

Prompt: Choose a piece of music that does not have words, and write a poem based on whatever it makes you feel or brings to mind.

Each caress beyond a caress, a stream of light,
the tingling of a thousand nerves, stars spinning across the sky.
Each kiss beyond a kiss, a cloud, swirling, turbulent then still,
a deep calm erupting into the volcano’s fire.
Each whisper beyond a whisper, shadows fall, a burst of darkness.

Unformed faces in swirling mists, merging deep,
floating in a silent spray, our bodies laughing as one,
sliding into each other’s embrace, one last time,
further and further, into the waves,
entwined, body and soul, then drifting away.

Clasping tight, braced against the waning summer sea,
will our love will be as deep and endless as our ocean?
A last glance at the waves of our summer dreams,
when on a distant shore, a tiger roars,
calling us home, where love’s next ocean awaits.
