I hope you step on a Lego when you least expect it.

I hope you step in a deep puddle and soak through your socks.

I hope you have bad breath on your next date and she notices when you lean in for a kiss.

I hope you hit every red light on your next long commute.

I hope your lunch is always a bit cold in the middle after your microwave it, but too hot around the edges.

I hope you burn your tongue on it.

I hope your washing machine eats one left sock.

I hope you get called in for jury duty the week before a big presentation.

I hope someone is eating chips during your big presentation.

I hope the bus comes early, and you miss it.

I hope the bus comes late when you’re waiting in the rain without an umbrella.

I hope you leave your wallet on the train.

I hope you get an itch somewhere inconvenient to scratch in public.

I hope you scratch it just as someone important walks by and sees you.

I hope they notice.

I hope Netflix drops your favourite show when you’re two episodes from the finale and you never get to see how it ends.

I hope you spill red wine on your good white shirt
and
I hope it stains.

But —
I also hope you think of me sometimes.

I hope you feel regret for the way things turned out.

I hope you figure out where it all went wrong.

I hope you set things right, somehow.

I hope I never have to see you again, but if I do, that there is an apology on your lips.

I hope you learn from your mistakes and never make the same ones with someone else.

I hope she loves you. I hope you treat her well.
