After A Harrowing Drive Home

sit by the fireplace
as winter’s breath chills outdoors
a recorded voice
softly whispers you are safe
these are not advant-garde words

this repetition
has no difficulty here
just relax and be
winter is your spokesperson
a secretary, indeed

now let silence seep
file away reputations
sink into your chair
forget about selections
you’ve acquired sweet peace
