THE DAILY SPECIAL
All That Glitters
And the love of things
He never seems happy
with what he has,
he only wants more —
the next big thing
and all that jazz.
He’ll never be happy
chasing an elusive dream
more money, more cars
he’ll never be more
than his material things.
That’s what he’s missing
not the wealth or the fame
but what hinges on truth —
his word, his time,
his good name.
Maybe he’ll realize before it’s too late
material things
isn’t what matters most
because he can’t take those with him
when all that’s left is a ghost.
Thanks to Ravyne Hawke for always inspiring me with her lovely prompts.
A poetic response to the Daily Special — November 5.
