The rain blackened pavement shone
As tires squealed aloud, a harbinger of grief

The road a frequent traveled path nothing unexpected
Until tonight a sight too late, the driver swerved

Disabled in the ditch alone, a seatbelt to incarcerate
A sound floated final to the driver’s ear

The hedgehog squeaked “Forgive me”
As he fiercely clutched a marigold astride the yellow lines

Ravyne Hawke has amazing prompts at her publication Promptly Written. I am finally getting the courage to post a submission. For the October 16th Challenge; use five of the following words in a poem.
