An Elegy For The Darkling

Long had you hidden away from the world
Wrapped up in your own twisted mind
No light could penetrate your darkened soul
No love would pass your swollen eyes

Lovers waxed and lovers wanned without care
They only helped you feel less numb
But none could pierce your armoured, shielded heart
‘Though many would have gladly tried

To them, you were a mystery to solve
They knew not how deeply they’d fall
Spiralled down into a darkened abyss
Their souls trapped in your inky hold

Yet, to save them all and to save myself
O’ Darkling of my troubled past
This stake I drive into your blackened heart
As tears fall throughout the mourning
