We were spellbound, enchanted, speechless, moved almost to tears with elation.

My brother, my sister, their families, and I had reached the resort in Kerala around 6.30 pm. We were welcomed by the staff onto the tiny island. The sun had set in a blaze of glory, but there was still light in the sky.

From the jetty extended a long walkway, with coconut trees bending and waving in the crisp evening breeze, and this walkway led to the main reception area. At the beginning, near the jetty, there was a giant white shell.

All around, were cozy nooks and corners, with hammocks stretched between trees. There was also a library of old and new books and an open-air yoga centre facing the sea, with polished wooden floors.

Cottages, each a separate unit, hidden among its own group of trees. Antiques made of copper, brass and bronze, tastefully arranged all around the rooms and portico. A massage centre, with ancient, traditional equipment, and massage oils.

Every visible pillar, even around the walkway, made of natural, unpolished granite. And the pièce de résistance? Floating cottages, on the edge of the sea. A cottage for two people, with all amenities, clean…
