Cats Are Mysterious Creatures — Three Answers to Age-Old Questions and More
“Catwatching” by Desmond Morris, a book review
Based on cover Illustration © 1986 by Edward Coleridge
Why does our pet act the way it does? In this book, Desmond Morris answers several questions, backed by research. I have always loved cats, not only because they are cuddly. I love the fact that they are not pack animals, that they stay ‘little kids’ with their human companions. And to be honest, because I understand the cat language.
Dog behaviour is much more common knowledge. Cats require a bit more of their owners. Dogs need to be trained to behave. Cats can be trained perfectly well. However, they will know how to behave and connect. As long as they are in human company for the first months of their lives. If you let them and learn their language. Then you will have a companion in the cat that people expect to find in dogs.
A few questions answered
So why aren’t cats living in packs? They are more solitary than dogs, or humans for that matter, though they are no hermits. A feline society comprises large male and smaller female domains, but did you know there are kinds of ‘reception rooms’? There are corridors or overlapping areas where all felines from the tribe come together.
