For me, the winter is the time of year to reflect, plan, prepare and prioritize. It’s the season of darkness. That may sound ominous, spooky perhaps, but I assure you it’s not. Quite the opposite, actually. It’s only in the dark that we truly appreciate the light, and we make it through the dark, cold months by celebrating all that’s bright and warm. We make it through with the festival of Yule, otherwise known as the Winter Solstice.

Yule, for me, is the celebration of:

  • Love,
  • laughter,
  • friendship,
  • family,
  • accomplishment and success,
  • happy memories and milestones,
  • goals and gain.

The significance of the Winter Solstice

Whereas the Summer Solstice marks the longest day, as the earth is closer to the sun than it is any other day of the year, the Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year, the earth has reached the furthest distance from the sun…
