Elegy Of A Broken Man

He was born full of promise and joy
protected by love.
Love, would not be given by all
and soon the darkness would envelope.
The sins of the father weigh heavy on the son
seeking love only pain found, indifference the norm.
His struggles became harder
as his need to escape more insistent.
As he grows older he craves the love missing
the broken boy becomes the broken man.
In drugs, he finds his shelter, no expectations here
choosing to disappear into the abyss.
Than face the reality of pain and broken trust.
Love gave him pain burdens never shared
his darkness takes over the light inside and out.
Broken from an early age never protected
he disappears into the abyss.
He tries to swim to the surface almost breaking through
his pain weighing him down like a stone.
The drugs keeping him grounded in a fake reality
