How many weeks did she wait for him to come home, constantly visiting the docks with tears in her eyes? She asked, “When will the ferry from Boston make its return? He said he’d only be gone a week. It’s been some time.”

She had planned a life of happiness with him. Together they would spend time exploring the world. Visiting the towns they saw in newspapers and books they kept on their shelves as a daily reminder to themselves.

They would dine at fancy restaurants. Hike up the mountains. Slow down, taking a moment to breathe in the clean air. They would explore the countryside taking pictures to commemorate their journey out there.

No one in the town dared to tell her that he had returned. His resolve to keep away from her made no sense. They pitied the young woman, yet no one cared to exchange more than a few words. She had no other friends.

They hoped she would find someone who treated her heart with care–a man who understood her value. She deserved true love and not from that coward who ran away, like a high school kid with his tail between his legs.

Thank you for reading and thank you to Ravyne Hawke for the prompt “resolve”. Hope you enjoyed the story I created using the theme.
