“Get back down here before anyone sees you,” whispered the boy from his bed.

The urgency in his voice didn’t faze her. She made her way to his desk and picked up a picture frame that held an old photo of them together.

The bedroom door creaked open. In the blink of an eye, she was back under the bed.

“Still up?

His mother spotted the photo. “I know you miss her. I miss her, too.” She hugged her son tightly as the girl underneath the bed felt herself gradually dissipating into the air, like the teardrops on his blanket.

This is probably the shortest short story that I have ever written and it was a response to the prompt below for the publication, “Promptly Written” created by Ravyne Hawke.

Today’s Fiction prompt

There is something unusual under your bed. Write a story about it.

Restriction — 100 words exactly (Centina)!
