I Am a Book You Need to Read
A poetic tribute to the invisible people we do not see
my cover may be torn
frayed edges
corners worn
colors faded
ink smeared with tears
will you open me and read
at least one chapter
of the millions
split apart
yet full of heart and hope
a thousand tales untold of human beings
trying to cope
I dream of dog-eared pages
marking where your fingers flipped
and got a grip on
how we slipped and fell through
the cracks
invisible against this icy wall of
rejection and exclusion
am I a closed book
do you condemn me to
an unread sentence
of broken dreams
border schemes
designed to keep me out of
your exclusive library
what are you afraid of
