Movies To Watch: “Howl’s Moving Castle”
An animation movie, but not (just) for children
I loved the book by Diana Wynne Jones “Charmed Life”. so when I saw there was a Japanese animation movie on Netflix of one of her books I got curious. At first, I thought what a sweet little movie and almost stopped watching.
Then things changed. A strange witch attacked the young girl the movie was following. The world of this Sophie changed radically. It is a story about acceptance, the realisation that character and kindness matter more than how you look. From a whole new angle!
I loved the way the magic was introduced, the door that literally opens to new worlds, the metaphorical way they depicted the war, and the lighter moods as well. It caught my attention and I couldn’t stop watching.
A piece of good advice: don’t start too late in the evening, as I did. You will find yourself awake until the movie ends!
Summary IMDb
When an unconfident young woman is cursed with an old body by a spiteful witch, her only chance of breaking the spell lies with a self-indulgent yet insecure young wizard and his companions in his legged, walking castle.
