I accept my power
LOUISE HAY

My first reaction upon seeing today’s affirmation was — Wow! I usually reserve my Wows for other people’s writing that blows me away. So why did those four words — I accept my power — have such an impact on me? I think it is because I have been on an eight-year journey of acceptance and never once have I accepted my own power.

I had a lot going on in my life back in 2014 when I chose Acceptance as my word for the year. This was something new that I was trying out since I’d failed miserably at new year resolutions for decades. I thought by choosing acceptance, it would help alleviate some of the stress I’d been under for a while.

Over these eight years, I’ve kept a list in my head of things I had control over, things that I could change, things that I could change with other people’s help, and things that I couldn’t change period. The latter I discovered was all of my past, so it was the easiest to accept — although letting it all go is still something I am working on.

So why did my own power never cross my radar?

I am not even sure I know what my power is. And if I don’t know, how am I…
