Peaceful Among Thorns
Poetry Contest Writing Response
The warrior got through
Failures and wars
Because he remembered
What he fought for
His spirit held strong
Throughout each fight
So that his family
Could sleep safely at night
Foe struck down
Friends were too
Though he never shed a tear
His valor was true
The pain of his past
Led him down a dark road
The darkness nearly won
Almost consuming his soul
The warrior stayed calm
He strengthened his ability
To accept what happened
And to embody tranquility
The fighter stayed strong
For his son and his wife
He embraced his burden
Then improved his life
One day his boy asked
With an inquisitive glare
Does the war ever end?
Spoken with despair
His father got down
And began to grin
He said to his son
My war is won within
By accepting his past
The warrior found peace
By embracing what happened
His war within ceased
