The Courts are packed with buccaneers;
our Parliament adores them.
They win the rabble with “buck-a-beer”s
and other meaningless slogans.

Once they have their seat of power
that they’ll do everything to keep,
they’ll besiege Ottawa’s Peace Tower
for all the profits they will reap.

They seek only to delude us
from their million-dollar condos.
They preach austerity and shrewdness,
while they steal money from Toronto.

I can’t fathom one more repugnant
than a Conservative politician,
making frontline workers redundant
as they reach their life’s ambition.

While they partake in luxuries
The average worker’s in arears.
Why are you bailing out big companies
while our meagre savings disappear?

This government is wretched
and it’s far more than I can take.
I hope disaster can be prevented
before it really is too late.

Thank you Ravyne Hawke for today’s poetry prompt: Choose at least five of the following ten words and write a poem [buccaneer / topaz / austere / wretched / besiege / partake / fervently / repugnant / shrewd / fathom]. You may use any form of the verb.”

To mitigate any confusion about line 3, see the campaign slogan of Doug Ford’s Ontario Conservative Party.
