embrace or resist change — it’s happening either way

The forest path calls
even as the laden trees
breathe and let go
decorating the stage
with their summer raiment
loosed and drifting
gathering into heaps
nestling up against the fallen logs
or alighting on the whispering creek

The path spills into the clearing
the sun’s rays splay
across the gala moment
everything dressed for the celebration
the unseen hand
reaches out and pulls
even the timid into
the irresistible hoedown
beat and breath as one
