Welcome to the twenty-ninth list of weekly writing prompts in 2024!

Our month of ‘adventure’ is drawing to a close, so you know what that means: Nostos! The return home, from whence we came.

Nostos is a common theme of Ancient Greek epic literature and means something like “homecoming”. In Ancient Greece, it was deemed a high level of heroism or greatness to manage to return from adventure.

It is from the Ancient Greek nostos that we get the modern word nostalgia, a compound consisting of nostos (vόστος) and algos (ἄλγος), meaning “pain.” In modern usage, nostalgia is a painful longing for the past, a desire to return home — especially when that “home” no longer exists.

Today’s prompts are all about hominess, going home, and nostalgia! As always, before we get started, here are a couple of quick reminders:
