Welcome to the thirty-fifth week of writing prompts in 2024. Last week’s prompts from Bella Smith highlighted some very serious statistics about suicide for Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month.

Suicide often only makes headlines when it involves a beloved celebrity. I remember how shocked I was to learn that Robin Williams, whose comedy and family films raised a generation, had taken his own life.

Laughter isn’t a cure for depression, but Robin Williams’s legacy is one that reminds us that even — or especially — when times are tough, making someone smile is always worth doing.
