Spectacles and Mirrors

A poem

Photo by Dariusz Sankowski on Unsplash

I am not a vampire

But I avoid mirrors.

I am an introvert,

Who enjoys spectacles.

Mirrors can conspire

To tell the truth,

But their surface inverts,

And allows the eye

To lie about our limits.

Something spectacular, I find,

Exists beyond the visual.

Let’s call it the textual;

And it’s a realm in which

The spectacle feels real.
