Today is a beautiful Spring day. Outside, the sun wraps me in warmth after the long, bitter Winter. The rain from the night before has left a scent of newness in the air. I breathe it into my beingness. I am renewed. New — a clean slate to start the year with.

I never trusted that the new year began in January. Not while the earth was still blanketed with snow and death. No, it wasn’t until I saw the first daffodils that the new year began for me.

I set off for my day of celebration. To dance in a field of wild flowers, where trees are blooming, and the squirrels scuttle about. To feel the sun kiss my skin. To welcome Aphrodite, the goddess of fertility, as she plants seedlings in the womb of Gaia, our mother of Earth.

This is what it means to be alive — fruitful abundance.
