Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is really not

That day in November,

When you eat and then

Lay back to remember

The good old days when

Mama cooked those pies.

And the older folks drank

And started telling lies,

About things that were

Of no consequence

About people and places

They haven’t seen since.

But for those of us

Who fear our God

Thanksgiving is what

We hold in our hearts.

When we never get that call

And it wasn’t our son

Who died in that brawl.

And we raise our hands

And we thank our Lord

For the grace He did impart.

And Thanksgiving is, yes

Right here in our hearts.

Think about that time

You fell deep into sin

On your way to destruction,

But your God reached in

Pulled you from ashes

Of addiction and pain

And restored life to you once again.
