Precious New Soul

The first breath, the first beat of a heart,
Life springs forth anew, a fresh start.
Ten tiny fingers, ten tiny toes,
Eyes squeezed shut, the little one grows.

Within mother’s arms, wrapped safe and warm,
The babe finds her voice, lets out a first squall.
O what a sound, what a wonder to behold!
This tiny new person, this precious new soul.

Fatigue melts from mother at that first cry,
Floods her with joy, brings tears to her eyes.
All the months waiting, the anticipation through,
Pay off richly in this moment so true.

Father gazes lovingly, grin stretches wide,
Pride swells in his chest, standing by mother’s side.
A family now grows, together they’ll be,
Supporting and cherishing this new baby.

In celebration of my granddaughter’s birth,
A heartfelt poem for the newest joy on earth.
Born Jan 9, 2024.

Amazing isn't it? My granddaughter and I share the same birthday.
