“For the good of humanity,” those words echoed through my mind above all else as I shuffled between the endless stacks of dimly lit pods.

When AI Global had unveiled its ultimate solution most people were overjoyed and grateful to have a real tangible option to solve all of humanity's biggest problems. Most people celebrated along with the media to glorify what this great pinnacle of collaborative world intelligence was going to do for the planet and humanity as a species. I can't blame them for focusing on the promised outcome. A bountiful world with unlimited food, space, and peace between all people. Who wouldn't be grateful for that? I guess we’re quick to overlook the simple wisdom of too good to be true.

It was an unsettling dichotomy to watch the world's technological advancements break all previous conceptions of what was possible between man and machine while the natural world around us was collapsing. In the decade leading up to the solution, people were scared and divided more than ever. The rich could drift away to artificial reality every day while the poor were stuck scraping together a limited existence in a world of rations, rules, and draconian control. “Defeat” was the operating system for most humans.
