Duke had remembered.

It was a terrible sequence of memories. But he had never forgotten how she had betrayed him and his total love for her. Such betrayal stays with a man forever. It is carved deep into their heart. Such wounds never heal. Time is not “the great healer”. Time only allows one to remember. And remember. It is new memories that are the healer. The new skin that can grow over the old scar tissue. A skin graft of memories.

And as for his soul? This was darkened by the need for vengeance. Dr. Harker/Queenie had brought him back. She would not allow him to die in peace. Peace was therefore impossible. It would only end either in his death, again, or in hers. Duke was pretty sure, this time, which way things would go. He’d had enough of coffins and burials.

Death wasn't that difficult, it was living that was a bitch,” he thought to himself and he laughed.

But this was not a human laugh. He heard the noise. He felt as if someone else had heard him. It was a faint sensation but it was growing stronger. And he suddenly realised that his powers were returning.

Whilst Duke had been remembering and the Creatures distracted by the Legend now immobilized by reverie and remorse, the Major who had been left unattended to and unguarded had stealthily moved…
