“Let's go Major” Duke was impatient. Time really was of the essence now. She had to be stopped.
“I am trying to reconfigure the portal to send us back to a day before she is facing that Court-Martial. Dr. Harker will not be expecting that nor us,” The Major retorted.
“Great idea. Sometimes Major you do genuinely surprise me. Now I'm truly glad I didn't slice your head off.”
“I'll take that as a compliment,” and the Major laughed very loudly. That inane mad laugh, again.
“Right, that should be it. I've done what I can to reset the portal. Should bring us back to about a day before. Give or take a few New Earth hours. Time enough to stop her from turning the President of the New Commonwealth.”
Duke without any hesitation jumped and so, a second later, did the Major but he had just enough lag-time to notice something move out of the tunnel and approach the portal.
As the Major hit terra firma very hard he heard Duke cursing. Travelling through the portal does not orient you to the landing zone. You can exit head first or feet first and in their case, they exited head first.
Duke was up first.
“Major. This is not the base. Where the f — — are we?”
