Let’s inspire each other
So many of you PW’ers have reached out over the last month or so while the Medium platform has been going through its issues. The impact of changing and unpredictable stats and earnings have been hard and it has prompted some of you to publish less. Those challenges seem to be evening out now which is a relief for everyone but I can see that it has resulted in a lot of people reflecting on why they are here on this platform and what they hope to get out of it.
Is it just the money or was it more about having a platform for your writing, and do the two things need to be separate? It’s been an interesting month to say the least but it made me think of another area of this writing life that I think we are all being forced to deal with now, and that is the role of technology in our creative lives.
The connective power of technology to give us access to a global audience has been life changing for many of us on Medium. I like to think of this new wave of independent publishing as though there is a home for every piece of writing, the game has just changed to be finding that home rather than trying to make your work fit something you think publishers are looking for.
In that sense technology has definitely made our lives bigger.
