Most of us here on Medium are not just readers — we are writers, creators… people who, at our core, want to live knowing that we are leaving some kind of mark or impact on the world around us.

Being creative, for me, is almost a compulsion. It is a deep seated need that I can’t look away from. Whether making something with my hands, weaving words or dancing, the act of creating something eases the tension in my shoulders and opens my lungs like nothing else. But it doesn’t always come easily.

A big part of being a creative person is having our creations being seen.

As writers, we often journal, and our phone’s notes app tend to be overflowing, but we want to share those words with others — to have them be heard.

The problem with that is, exposure leaves us vulnerable to judgement and the negative sides of being truly seen.

That is why I think creative people — and yes I’m biased and I don’t care — writers especially, are some of the bravest people I know. Because we face our fears head-on every time we sit down with pen and paper. We are intimate with risk.

And this month at the launching point of so many dreams and ambitions…
