Foreword

I love this part of the story. A family that has been separated begins to find its way back together. To understand this story, you should know it refers to characters and events from Act 1: An Unusual Brain, Epilogue — Back to the Dust Then. For those who haven’t read it, it introduces us to Cliff — Aidan’s dad and Heather’s husband. Cliff is a friend of Abraham’s dad and is Edie’s boss at the truck depot. The epilogue finds Cliff getting started with any old work day, except he has a shocking headache. As he heads off on a routine run in his road train he starts to black out and finally finds himself in the butcher shop. The shop is destroyed the owner is dead and Cliff is in a bad way. But then something unusual happens: vines and flowers begin to grow in the truck cabin and Cliff begins to transform. It’s all very weird and a little troubling, but those who know Cliff best know he’s been looking for something different, something weird. He embraces it and finds himself a new creature (whose name is Aieweh) on his way to a new place. Around the carnage of the butcher shop and the truck a strange outcrop of trees and vines and flowers begins to grow. And…
