There Was A Time

There was a time
When the sky was blue
The sun shone bright
Yesterday’s news

Now we huddle, we wait
Knowing with certainty and fear
Our fate
It’s just hours away, so near

Each new breath
Is this moment’s treasure
As we spiral towards certain death
We hope it will be sweeter

The warnings, we ignored
For-profits gained
Egos fed for false rewards
Too many years the madness reigned

Blindfolded, we scurried about
Talking the talk without the walk
Taking no personal account
While the Reaper began his stalk

Black now, absence of light
The sun is just a memory
It’s time to give up the fight
The end, the end to history

I want to thank Ravyne Hawke from Promptly Written for today’s daily prompt that inspired this poem.
