They both stood in the middle of the overstuffed room. Dimly lit by lanterns and ancient oil lamps the room was alive with the glint of gold and ancient Egyptian artifacts.

Lori took a step back and bumped into an intricately carved table, almost toppling a lamp and a small statuette. She righted the oil lamp, quickly caught the small statuette, and placed it gingerly on the table.

“Hey,” Roger snapped.

She sniffed. “There’s too much stuff in here. All kinds of junk.”

“My uncle was a collector,” he snapped back.

She started to weave her way through the overpacked room. She tapped on the gilded, carved, and bejeweled mummy case. “You think this is real?” She tapped harder.

Roger grabbed her hand. “Yes. It’s real. He collected stuff.” He moved his arm in an expansive gesture to take in the room.

He took an oil lamp and held it aloft to illuminate the paper he was holding. “I’m going to read this thing, follow it, just like he wanted. He said something amazing was going to happen.”

Lori folded her arms across her chest and tapped her foot. ‘This is stupid. Just a bunch of old junk.” She flicked a scarab off the table. It bounced across the floor and hit the mummy case. The case rattled and the…
