The bitterest cold
always comes with drifts of snow
to soften the sound
of warm streets covered
in dazzle and nostalgia.
Footsteps on Main Street
crunch without echo
as I walk alone, head down
sad snow reminding
me of winters past
and the silver-white magic
that December brought
when I was a child
and the snow meant more than chill —
it meant joy and…
