LEAP 3 Assignment

Over the course of this class, I have learned so much valuable information regarding propaganda. The term “propaganda” has so much propaganda surrounding it. Most people associate negativity with the term and believe it is a tool used by one group of people to make another group of people look bad. This is common for political cartoons and cartoons that were published during wars. However, through this class I have learned the true meaning of it and that it is not always bad. Propaganda and persuasion are not much different. You can find propaganda in climate change speeches, persuading an audience to make a change. It can be found in conspiracy theories and on our streaming services and social medias. It is more than just political. It is trying to sell you on watching a show or buying a Big Mac.

In today’s world, it is vital for us to know how to detect propaganda. Knowing what it is can make us more wary and therefore less susceptible to falling for lies. It is something that is never going to go away, and actually is going to become a bigger issue with the ever-changing progression of technology. It is up to us to figure out what the lies are.

In this class, my five biggest takeaways are that propaganda can be a good thing, algorithmic personalization in entertainment, state sponsored propaganda, fake news and fact checkers, and why people believe in conspiracy theories.
